44. Carrie Matthews is The Other Side of Suicide: A Daughter, Officer, and Advocate Speaks Out
Carrie is a 20-year veteran of the Chicago Police Department and the daughter of a retired Chicago Police Officer who died by suicide. Coming from a long line of law enforcement, she has experienced the job from many angles—working a beat car, community policing, specialized teams, desk duty, and as a DARE/GREAT officer.
Since her father’s passing in 2023, Carrie has been open about the profound impact of suicide on her family, especially her two children. She is passionate about mental health awareness and breaking the stigma surrounding officers seeking help.
